Three of a family arrested for IAF engineer's murder in Prayagraj

Prayagraj, Mar 31 (UNI) Three members of a family, including a woman, were arrested by a joint team of Puramufti police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surveillance Cell on Monday in connection with murder of the Chief Works Engineer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Bamrauli area of Prayagraj district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here.
It may be noted that Chief Work Engineer of IAF Satya Narayan Mishra was shot dead by an unidentified youth in the Engineer Colony inside the Air Force Station in Bamrauli area on March 29.
Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ajay Pal Sharma said that three accused, including Saurabh Kumar alias Babu Pasi (22), his father Shiv Kumar (48) and mother Sunita Devi (40), all residents of Lal Bihara in Bamrauli, were arrested on the information of the informer near the road going to Bharetha Mod Maria Deeh.
He said that 1 .32 bore illicit pistol with 1 illegal live cartridge, 1 .315 bore illegal pistol with 4 illegal live cartridges used in the murder were recovered from their possession. "On the intervening night of March 28 and 29, SN Mishra was shot dead by an unknown accused in the residential complex within the boundary of the Air Force Station," he said.
The ACP said that a case was registered in Puramufti police station in this connection and police teams were formed to successfully uncover the incident. "The incident was successfully uncovered on the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence," he said.
He said that on interrogating accused Saurabh revealed that his father Shiv Kumar Pasi and mother Sunita Devi work as domestic help at the officers' place within the Air Force Campus. "The accused revealed that his elder brother Honey alias Gautam is imprisoned in District Jail Kaushambi for the murder of a person," he said.
Sharma said that the accused and his family needed money to release him. "On the day of his elder brother's appearance in the court Saurabh, along with his father and mother, planned to commit theft in the house of SN Mishra inside the Air Force Station," he said.
He said that the accused, carrying a pistol and other material, crossed the boundary with the help of a tree planted along the wall of the Air Force Station and went near the residence of SN Mishra and tried to cut the door, but the people of the house woke up.
He said, "The accused again tried to open the latch with his hand. When people inside the house raised the alarm, he fired from the pistol and fled from the spot."
