Vehicular traffic to be diverted in Shimla from May 22-June 8 for underground utility work

Shimla, May 20 (UNI) In view of construction work for laying an underground utility duct, vehicular traffic on the road from Chhota Shimla to Oak Over will remain suspended from May 22 to June 8, 2025.
The decision follows a request from the Executive Engineer, HPPWD, and recommendations from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Shimla.
District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap issued the order under sections 115 and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, restricting all types of vehicles, except emergency services, on the said stretch. The closure is essential to facilitate the safe execution of the underground duct laying between Chhota Shimla and Oak Over.
As per the diversion plan, general vehicular traffic will be rerouted via Raj Bhawan to Oak Over–Rahat Hotel–Chhota Shimla. Vehicles, including HRTC taxis, will be redirected through Shilli Chowk via KNH–Himland–Tolland to reach their respective destinations.
The District Magistrate has directed the executing agency to ensure full compliance with safety protocols, especially for pedestrians and school-going children. The police and concerned departments have been instructed for necessary action, and the DPRO Shimla has been asked to ensure wide publicity of the order.
The order is expected to impact daily commuters and local taxi services, prompting authorities to urge the public to cooperate and use alternate routes during the 17-day period.
This temporary measure is part of the administration’s effort to enhance utility infrastructure without compromising public safety.
