Bengaluru, Apr 6 (UNI) Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday categorically denied that the Waqf Amendment Bill is anti-Muslim, accusing the Congress and other opposition parties of spreading disinformation to mislead the public and create fear among the minority community.
"There is a deliberate attempt to create an atmosphere that Muslim religious properties will be taken back. This is completely false and a disinformation campaign by Congress and others," Joshi told reporters here.
The Minister asserted that the amendment, recently passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha with a comfortable majority, had received the President’s assent and would soon become law through a formal notification.
Emphasising the government’s intent, Joshi said the objective of the amendment is to bring transparency in the management of Waqf properties and ensure proper revenue generation.
"Any private entity with such vast land and bank equity would generate significant income. But Waqf properties yield negligible revenue due to lack of transparency," he said.
He further informed that the subordinate legislation will soon be formulated, and rules governing the Act will be notified by the concerned department in due course.
