'Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq’: J&K Congress launches statehood restoration movement from Kulgam

Srinagar, June 28 (UNI) J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today launched `Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq' movement to pressure the central government to restore statehood to the Union Territory.
JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra presided over a day-long political convention at Chawalgam in Kulgam district in which he formally kicked off the Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq movement for the restoration of Statehood after completing district-level conventions in Jammu.
CLP Leader & AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir & Ex. MLA Devsar Mohd Amin Bhat were present and addressed the convention.
Tariq Hameed Karra criticized the BJP government for failing to fulfill its promise of the restoration of Statehood. Terming the delay a deliberate move to keep people away from their basic rights and privileges. The delay in granting statehood even after promising at the floor of the parliament and supreme court directive is very unfortunate, Karra added and said Congress party in district level conventions across Kashmir province shall continue to reiterate its urgent demand for restoration of Statehood, it will not sit till the statehood is restored to J&K, he said.
On this occasion JKPCC President questioned J&K BJP to explain whether they are interested in Statehood or not, if they are interested then why don’t they speak about it in open and pressurize their Central Leader to restore Statehood to J&K. The silence-maintained shows that J&K BJP don’t want Statehood to be restored to J&K, Karra rued.
Referring to the Pahalgam massacre of innocent civilians, Karra questioned the tall claims of the Centre concerning the prevalence of peace in J&K. He said the Centre Govt has failed to ensure protection of innocent people which led to the killings of tourists who had come here to spend time, but they were martyred due to the failure of the Govt on the security front.
JKPCC President also questioned the foreign policy of Centre Govt and said even after spending huge amount on foreign trips and meeting world leaders, Prime Minister was not able to get the support of world leaders which was visible during the India Pakistan conflict in the aftermath of Pahalgam massacre when no country supported India rather the US intervention is a clear violation of Shimla agreement. The Prime Minister should explain whether the Shimla agreement is still intact because the US intervention violates the Shimla Agreement, which is a matter of serious concern and reflects the failed foreign policy, he said.
Addressing the convention, CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir stated that Congress is committed to empowering people of every section equally, and it will continue to fight for safeguarding their rights. J&K is the worst hit by BJP’s divisive policies and misleading politics, even innocent lives were lost due to the failures and negligent behavior of the BJP government, still many tall claims were made for the prevalence of peace, which is misleading and concocted stories aiming to hide failure on the part of central government.
Congress will fight for Statehood with constitutional rights and ensure that J&K gets the respect and honor it deserves.
Former Legislators Mohd Amin Bhat, Abdul Raheem Rather, and DCC President Abdul Rashid Lone addressed the convention and assured the leadership they will continue to hold public outreach programmes and strengthen the Party further at the grassroots.
