Himachal monsoon rain toll rises to 34, four missing; 374 have died since March 1

Shimla, June 28 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh has witnessed a tragic loss of 34 lives in just one week between June 20 and June 27 due to heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, landslides, lightning strikes, and accidents linked to bad weather.
Since March 1 this year, a total of 374 people have died across the state in different weather-related incidents, making it one of the worst seasons in recent times.
Out of the 34 deaths in the ongoing monsoon season, 17 were directly caused by natural disasters like landslides and flash floods, while another 17 people died in road accidents that happened during heavy rain. Four are still missing after the June 26 cloud burst.
Kangra district has been the worst affected, with 12 deaths reported from flash floods and landslides and 11 bodies recovered and one is missing.
Three people washed away after cloudburst on July 26 in Kullu one body located and two are still missing.
The rain has also affected basic services.
On June 28, 38 roads were reported blocked, 22 power transformers were disrupted, and 6 water supply schemes were not working. Most of the road blockages were in Kullu district, followed by Mandi.
Damage to private property has also been severe. So far, 38 houses have been fully damaged and 74 partially.

Shops, huts, and cowsheds have also been washed away. Forty-nine animals have died, and four people are still missing. At least 74 people have suffered injuries in these rain-related incidents.
The state government has estimated the total loss at over Rs71 crore. This includes damage to roads, water supply schemes, schools, hospitals, and other government buildings.
Meanwhile, after the desilting of the Latgi Dam, the authorities have issued a warning for people living downstream. The public has been advised not to go near rivers or streams as the water flow may suddenly increase. The flow from major dams like Kol Dam, Nathpa, and Larji is being closely monitored and is currently under control, but caution is being advised for nearby areas.
People are urged to remain alert and follow safety instructions issued by the authorities.
