‘Morning office, evening home, weekend holiday, is CM an ordinary govt servant?” EPS jibe at Vijay

Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) Taunting Vijay over his style of functioning and reportedly remaining incommunicado on weekends, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday asked whether the Chief Minister could remain like an ordinary government servant, resulting in an administrative paralysis.
“Morning in the office, evening back home, weekend holiday, is the Chief Minister an ordinary government servant?” he asked, speaking to reporters in Madurai. “He is remaining incommunicado from 6 pm to 9 am the next day. He is not even getting in touch with officials in the interregnum,” he claimed, questioning the way Vijay conducts his routine as Chief Minister.
Since taking over as Chief Minister on May 10, Vijay has been punctual and prompt in arriving at the secretariat in the morning, bringing his lunch, and leaving office after 5 pm. Unlike his predecessors, he does not relish a siesta. Besides his trademark suits, he also sports the dhoti, the traditional Tamil attire, especially on Friday and festive occasions. However, he keeps the evenings for himself. This has given rise to speculation about him remaining out of reach and increasing scrutiny about his style of functioning.
The jailbreak at Theni district, in which 17 remand prisoners fled after attacking the cops, came close on the heels of two inmates escaping from the high-security Puzhal Prison in Chennai. Vijay is holding the Home portfolio.
“It is more than six months since the TVK formed the government. Law and order is teetering; the free flow of drugs is posing a grave danger. There is administrative paralysis,” EPS charged. The AIADMK leader also has a grouse against Vijay for poaching his party legislators and ensuring their victory in bypolls.
The principal opposition DMK is also keeping the heat on the government, alleging that the arrest of former minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi yesterday, and the subsequent Vigilance raid on party veteran KN.Nehru’s residence are a diversionary tactic to deflect public attention from pressing issues like price rise and increasing crimes.
Kanimozhi, MP, citing the spurt in daylight murders rocking the state, had asked Vijay to hand over the Home portfolio to someone capable of handling it. “Considering people’s welfare, I reiterate that @TVKVijayHQ should entrust the police department to someone qualified to handle it,” she said in a post on ‘X’.
