18-Year-Old Haryana Wrestler Found Dead, Note Names Three People; Police Probe Possible Financial Dispute

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) An 18-year-old wrestler training at Mahavir Stadium in Haryana's Bhiwani district was found dead at his village home in Hansi on Thursday, with police recovering a suspected suicide note naming three people and investigating whether a financial dispute was involved.
The wrestler, identified as Dhirendra of Bas Khurd village, had returned home on Wednesday evening after visiting Bhiwani, where he lived in rented accommodation while preparing for wrestling competitions.
His body was discovered by his uncle at around 5 a.m. on Thursday in a cattle shed at the family home, police said. A forensic team was called to examine the scene and collect evidence.
According to his cousin Sanjay, the note reportedly mentioned two brothers from Prem Nagar in Bhiwani and another person employed at the Prem Nagar electricity substation.
"The family does not know these people or what connection they had with Dhirendra," Sanjay said, according to the account provided by the family.
Dhirendra had taken approximately Rs 48,000 from home two days before his death and travelled to Bhiwani. Investigators are examining whether the money was connected to a dispute, although neither the purpose of the payment nor any link to his death has been established.
Family members said Dhirendra had been training in wrestling for seven to eight years and had previously won a medal at the junior national level.
He was also selected for a Sports Authority of India hostel programme, but his training suffered following his father's death, and he subsequently failed to clear a trial, according to relatives.
He later moved into rented accommodation in Bhiwani to continue training at Mahavir Stadium.
Sanjay said some of Dhirendra's friends who attended his funeral told the family that the young wrestler had been distressed following the death of a close friend about a week earlier. The friend reportedly had a congenital heart condition.
Police have not established whether that bereavement, a possible financial dispute, or any other circumstances contributed to his death.
Dhirendra is survived by his mother and elder brother, who works as a driver.
Bas police station in-charge Sub-Inspector Jai Singh said the circumstances leading to the death remained under investigation.
"The cause behind the suicide is not yet known. We are investigating and will establish the circumstances," Singh said.
Police said the note and forensic evidence were being examined. No finding of wrongdoing has been announced against the three people reportedly named in the note.
