31st IFFK to offer more screenings; first show at 7 am to ease rush: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 31 (UNI) The 31st Kerala International Film Festival (IFFK) will have more screenings, with the first show scheduled at 7 am and additional performances extending late into the night, to ensure that delegates can watch films without prolonged waiting, Minister for Cinema, Culture and Tourism P.C. Vishnunath said on Saturday.
The expanded screening schedule is intended to manage the rush and avoid situations in which film enthusiasts wait for hours but are unable to watch their chosen films, he said.
Inaugurating the meeting to form the organising committee for the 31st edition of the festival, the Minister said the IFFK had earned a unique place through its content, organisation and widespread public participation.
The festival's distinctiveness lay in the participation of ordinary cinema lovers along with filmmakers and other professionals from the film industry. Efforts would be made to retain this popular character, he said, reiterating that the festival would continue to be hosted in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Tourism Department would take the initiative to arrange visits for foreign delegates to major tourist destinations across Kerala, enabling them to experience the state's tourism attractions, the Minister said.
Cultural programmes at Manaveeyam Veedhi and six days of performances featuring traditional art forms at Kanakakkunnu would be organised as part of the festival. The programmes would be jointly presented by the Culture and Tourism departments.
All academies functioning under the Culture Department would also collaborate with the festival and organise various programmes, he added.
MLAs N. Sakthan, M. Vincent, V. Muraleedharan and Sudheer Sha Palode, Culture Department Director Imbasekhar, Chalachitra Academy Chairman Ravindran, Vice-Chairperson Priyanka Nair, Cultural Welfare Fund Board Chairman M. Ranjith and Lalithakala Akademi Chairman Prakash Moorthy attended the meeting held at the Government Guest House here.
People's representatives, filmmakers, academy executive committee members, representatives of film organisations and cultural activists were also present.
