32 elected unopposed as Mayors/Chairpersons in Rajasthan civic bodies polls

Jaipur, Sep 18 (UNI) The mayors and chairpersons of at least 32 of the 305 civic bodies, including the Bharatpur and the Bhilwara municipal corporations, were elected unopposed in Rajasthan on Friday.
A total of 197 of the eligible 820 candidates had withdrawn their nominations until the deadline for withdrawal, that lapsed at 03:00pm this afternoon.
Now 592 contestants are left in the fray for the September 21 elections for the post of mayor/chairpersons in the 305 civic bodies, a State Election Commission spokesperson said here this evening.
Among the 32 unopposed heads of municipal bodies, 28 belong to the BJP, two are from the Congress and remaining two are Independents.
Of the 28 BJP elected, Ms Jaswant Kanwar has been declared elected unopposed Mayor in the Bhilwara Municipal Corporation and Anuradha Singh (BJP) will be the Mayor in Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, in the home district of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
BJP clinched the post even as the 65-member House has a clear majority of Independents (36).
The Congress nominees Yashoda Kanwar and Ramkala have been elected unopposed chairpersons in the Bhim (Rajsamand) Municipality and Sarmathura Municipality.
Likewise, Girish Kumar and Manisha have been elected unopposed chairpersons in the Dholpur Municipal Council and the Sadulpur Municipality in Sriganganagar district.
