JKPCC chief takes national, J&K issues to people through ‘Chaupal Pe Charcha’

Jammu, Sep 18 (UNI) Bringing local residents and party leaders together to discuss issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir as well as matters of wider public interest, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today organized a ‘Chaupal Pe Charcha’ programme.
The programme was organized under the leadership and coordination of Amrit Bali, Incharge Jammu South-RS Pura, along with Santosh Sharma, Sunita Sharma and Gurmeet Singh, Block President.
JKPCC President Tariq Hamid Karra, Working President Raman Bhalla, former MP Choudhary Lal Singh, T S Tony, District President Urban Yogesh Sawhney and Balbir Singh were among the senior leaders present on the occasion.
During the interaction, Congress leaders highlighted issues including restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, unemployment, recruitment and examination concerns, rising prices, farmers’ problems, vacancies in education and healthcare, regularization of daily wagers, concerns of NHM employees and deficiencies in civic infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Karra stressed the importance of maintaining direct contact with the people and taking their concerns to appropriate forums.
He raised issues related to democratic accountability, transparency, employment opportunities, economic pressures on households and difficulties faced by students and job aspirants.
He also reiterated the Congress demand for restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
He said concerns related to youth, students, workers, farmers, employees and ordinary households required sustained attention.
He also referred to the party’s campaigns on ‘Chanda Chori’ and ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, which focus on issues related to political accountability and students and examinations.
Raman Bhalla focused particularly on the concerns of PoJK displaced families.
He called for a comprehensive rehabilitation framework covering financial assistance, land rights, employment, education, healthcare and other pending issues.
He recalled that a JKPCC delegation had met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in March 2026 and sought a comprehensive rehabilitation package for refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971, including PoJK displaced families.
Bhalla criticised the Rs ₹2,000-crore rehabilitation package announced for 36,384 displaced families from PoJK and Chhamb, under which eligible families were to receive ₹5.5 lakh as one-time assistance.
He described the assistance as inadequate and demanded broader measures addressing the long-term rehabilitation and economic concerns of displaced families.
Former MP Choudhary Lal Singh said Congress would continue raising public issues at appropriate forums.
He highlighted concerns related to employment, development, public services, farmers, workers, youth and rising living costs, and called for stronger basic infrastructure and equitable development.
