AAP prepares backup leadership ahead of October 10 protest: Saurabh Bharadwaj

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified preparations for its October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar, with Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj holding an emergency meeting with party MLAs, councillors, district presidents, Assembly presidents and ward observers on Monday.
The meeting focused on preparing a backup leadership structure in case senior leaders are arrested ahead of the proposed protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Bharadwaj claimed that the government was planning to arrest leaders associated with the movement in “false cases” and urged organisations supporting the protest to prepare alternative leadership and communication mechanisms.
“The government is frightened by the massive movement taking place at Jantar Mantar on October 10, where people from every corner of the country will come to raise their voices against the Election Commission,” he said.
Bharadwaj alleged that police action could be taken against leaders of various organisations and said, “This movement is bigger than any political party or organisation. This is a movement of 140 crore people of the country, so regardless of who gets arrested, this movement must not stop.”
He asked party workers and participating organisations to prepare Plans A, B and C, including arrangements for communication if senior and grassroots leaders are detained.
“Suppose all the first-line leaders are arrested on October 6 for several months. Who will the second-line leaders be? If the second-line leaders are also arrested, who will the third-line leaders be?” he said.
Bharadwaj also stressed that the protest must remain peaceful despite any arrests. “We must ensure that the protest remains completely democratic, constitutional, legal and peaceful,” he said.
“Everyone should prepare Plans B and C. This is the biggest movement, and it is through this movement that this country, its politics, its democracy and its Constitution can be saved. Therefore, everyone should get ready,” Bharadwaj said.
