Adani group to invest over Rs 1 lakh crore in Bengal by 2045: Gautam Adani

Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday announced a long-term investment commitment of more than Rs 1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2045, saying India is "looking east once again" and the state has the potential to play a significant role in the country's next phase of growth.
Addressing the inauguration of the Adani Aarogya Mandir in New Town, Adani said the group would invest across sectors including ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges and hyperscale data centres.
"Today India is looking east once again with hope that Bengal will renew its strength and write the next great chapter," Adani said.
"Under your leadership, I've every reason to believe Bengal will redefine the possibilities ahead of us. We at Adani are committed to contributing to those possibilities," he said as he praised chief minister Suvendu Adhikari,.
He said West Bengal has an "extraordinary combination of geography, talent and economic potential" and that its strategic location could help strengthen India's maritime and logistics connectivity with the Northeast, the Bay of Bengal and Southeast Asia.
Invoking the legacies of Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Jagadish Chandra Bose,Adani said Bengal's ideas, courage, science and culture had shaped the destiny of the nation across generations.
Adani said the Adani Group wanted to contribute to the next phase of growth in the state alongside the people of Bengal and described the Adani Aarogya Mandir as the beginning of the group's commitment to the state.
He said that Bengal has a strategic role as a national maritime and logistics bridge, connecting India’s industrial heartland and the Northeast with the Bay of Bengal. He mentioned that stronger ports are improving logistics, attracting industries, and driving manufacturing, which will, in turn, support energy and digital infrastructure for the future.
The Aarogya Mandir will be a not-for-profit medical institution with 2,000 beds, including 1,000 beds catering to economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes.
The Adani Group will invest over Rs 4,000 crore in the hospital, medical college and research facility. The institutions are expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem in the state.

With this vision, the Adani Group expects to invest over Rs 1 lakh crore in Bengal by 2045 across sectors including ports, logistics, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads, bridges and hyperscale data centres.
Adani said the investment would form part of the group's broader commitment to building infrastructure and expanding economic opportunities in the state, while the healthcare initiative would mark the beginning of that engagement.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari urged the Adani Group to make further investments in the state, saying the conglomerate could play a key role in rebuilding Bengal as he laid the foundation stone for a 2,000-bed hospital for the poor in New Town.
Adhikari said half of the hospital's beds would be reserved for poor patients and provided entirely free of charge.
"The hospital will have 1,000 beds for the poor, absolutely free. This is a big thing. It does not exist anywhere else in India. Such high-standard hospitals do not provide treatment to the poor free of cost. Therefore, today is a historic day for Bengal. This is a milestone," he said.
