Haryana official calls for dedicated facility for children with special needs in Panchkula

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Haryana Information and Public Relations Commissioner and Secretary K.M. Pandurang on Monday called for the establishment of a fully equipped institution in Panchkula to provide education, healthcare and training to children with special needs.
Pandurang was speaking at an event at Mata Mansa Devi Gaushala, marking the 13th anniversary of the Panchkula Gaushala Trust and the third anniversary of the “Kalam Express” initiative.
“The talent of children with special needs cannot be confined by limitations. Their physical challenges do not define their potential,” Pandurang said.
He said appropriate training, medical care and encouragement could help children with special needs develop their abilities and become more independent.
Pandurang said a dedicated institution in Panchkula could provide specialised education, healthcare, training and other support while also assisting parents and families.
He also praised Kalam Express, a “School on Wheels” initiative launched in 2023 to provide education, specialised training and physiotherapy to children who are unable to attend mainstream schools because of physical conditions.
The initiative has received support from Shri Dhanwantari Ayurvedic College and Hospital and the Indian Red Cross Society in Panchkula, officials said.
Children with special needs presented cultural performances at the event. Pandurang distributed school bags and also felicitated senior citizens, teachers and physiotherapists.
“With the right opportunities, training, medical care, love and encouragement, these children can become a source of inspiration for their families and society,” Pandurang said.
