Ambuja Cements plans 2.9 MTPA grinding unit in Jharkhand's Godda

Ranchi, Nov 2 (UNI) Ambuja Cements Limited has proposed setting up a 2.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cement grinding unit at Godda in Jharkhand as part of its Rs 14,500 crore expansion programme to increase its overall cement capacity to 155 MTPA by FY30.
The proposed project is part of the company's plan to add around 30 MTPA of cement capacity through greenfield and brownfield expansions across six states, including Jharkhand, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
The company said the Godda unit would strengthen its manufacturing presence in eastern India and improve its ability to serve regional markets. The eastern expansion plan also includes 2.9 MTPA grinding units each at Rangia and Hojai in Assam and Muzaffarpur in Bihar, besides a proposed 4 MTPA clinker facility at Umrangso in Assam.
The expansion programme includes 11.6 MTPA of additional grinding capacity in the East, 15.5 MTPA in the West and 2.9 MTPA in the North.
Ambuja Cements currently has an installed cement capacity of 113.5 MTPA, supported by 24 integrated plants and 24 grinding units across the country.
The company expects its capacity to reach 119 MTPA by March 2027, following the commissioning and ramp-up of projects in Punjab, Rajasthan and Bihar.
Vinod Bahety, CEO of the Cement Business at Adani Group, said the expansion was aimed at creating a more balanced manufacturing network, improving logistics and cost efficiencies and strengthening the company's presence in high-growth markets.
The company is targeting a cement production cost of Rs 4,000 per metric tonne by FY28. It said the proposed expansion and additional capacity optimisation measures would support its long-term growth strategy.
