Chittoor, June 17 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a money lender allegedly tied a young woman to a tree for not clearing the debt taken by her husband at Narayanapuram village of Kuppam mandal of the district on Tuesday.
Police said that Thimmarayappa had taken a Rs 80,000 loan from moneylender Muni Kannappa three years ago. However, he did not repay the debt. On Tuesday, money lender Muni Kannappa saw the wife of borrower Thimmarayappa's wife Shirisha (25). He insisted she cleared the loan which her husband had taken, but she refused to do so.
Furious over this, Muni Kannappa attacked her, dragged her on the road and tied her to a tree with a rope and abused her. A local Telugu Desam party activist informed the police about the incident. The police rushed to the place, rescued the women, arrested the moneylender and registered a case under various sections of BNS.
A villager videographed the incident which went viral on social media. This incident took place in Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency Kuppam.
Responding to the incident, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu spoke to the Superintendent of Police of Chittoor district and ordered him to take action against the accused moneylender. He asked the SP to ensure that such incidents do not recur anywhere.
The CM also directed the officials to stand by and extend needed support to the victim.
