AP CM Naidu distributes pattas to 28,445 families in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Sept 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday distributed conveyance deeds to 28,445 beneficiaries, ending a decades-long wait for ownership rights over their house sites under the Pedalaku Pattabhishekam–Mee Illu Mee Hakku programme here.
The government regularised 399 acres of land across 11 mandals in the Visakhapatnam region, covering 19,33,853 square yards.
The registration value of the land covered by the pattas is estimated at around Rs 8,874 crore, while its market value is considerably higher.
Personally handing over pattas to several beneficiaries at the programme, Naidu said the government was committed to ensuring every poor family had a permanent house and address.
“Food, shelter and clothing” remained the government’s guiding principle, he said, adding that more than five lakh houses had been constructed in the last two years and another five lakh-plus houses would be completed by next March.
Addressing a public meeting later, the Chief Minister said the distribution of pattas had brought an end to the uncertainty faced by thousands of poor families who had been living without ownership rights.
He advised beneficiaries not to sell their properties merely because land values had increased, saying the properties would provide security and confidence to their families and future generations.
Naidu said the government would soon take steps to resolve the long-pending Panchagramalu issue in Visakhapatnam, under which pattas were to be issued to around 22,000 people.
Eligible poor families residing on Endowments Department lands would also be provided house sites, he said.
Through the Mee Bhoomi–Mee Hakku programme, the government was working to resolve long-standing revenue-related issues, with land already regularised and pattas issued to around 12,000 families in various districts, he said.
The Chief Minister described Visakhapatnam as one of the fastest-growing cities in the country and said it had the potential to emerge as a global city.
He directed officials to make the city cleaner and greener and said the government was taking steps for its overall development, including efforts to safeguard the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant with the support of the Centre.
On drinking water, Naidu said the impact of El Niño had created difficulties in Visakhapatnam and assured that measures would be taken to address the shortage. Godavari water would be brought to the city through the Polavaram project to provide a permanent solution to its drinking water needs, he said.
He said Godavari water had already been brought to Anakapalli through the Polavaram Left Main Canal and steps were being taken to link it with the Vamsadhara river.
The Veligonda project was also being completed to provide water to Markapuram, he added.
Naidu said the government was working to attract industries to the state and would ensure adequate water for both Visakhapatnam residents and industries.
Ministers K Atchannaidu, Nadendla Manohar and Dola Balaveeranjaneya, BJP State president PVN Madhav, MP M Sribharat, MLAs, public representatives and officials attended the programme.
