AP CM Naidu to launch Rs 3,892-cr development projects in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Sept 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will virtually inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 3,892 crore under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) from Kuppam on Tuesday.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the programme would be held at V Convention in Madhurawada Zone, with public representatives and officials of the concerned departments participating.
Of the total projects, works worth Rs 3,531.47 crore are being taken up under GVMC and Rs 360.49 crore under VMRDA.
The projects cover drinking water supply, sewerage, AI-based traffic management, automation, roads, parks and sports infrastructure.
Under the Urban Civic Fund, foundation stones will be laid for a 24/7 drinking water supply system in Madhurawada, East Zone and surrounding areas at a cost of Rs 725.18 crore, modernisation of bulk and semi-bulk water connections with advanced metering, automation and SCADA systems at Rs 117.24 crore, and an industrial water supply pipeline from Narava Water Treatment Plant to HPCL and other industries along Port Road at Rs 150 crore.
Five drinking water supply works and two sewerage works worth Rs 400 crore will be taken up under AMRUT 2.0.
The Rs 446-crore NRW reduction and 24/7 drinking water supply project in the GVMC North-West Sector will also be inaugurated.
The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for a comprehensive sewerage system in Madhurawada Zone-II at Rs 658.61 crore and for sewage collection and conveyance works in Gajuwaka under Sewerage Package-II at Rs 150 crore.
In Pendurthi, a Rs 452.42-crore project comprising a sewage collection and conveyance system and a 46 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant will be inaugurated.
For traffic management, the foundation stone will be laid for the Rs 99.19-crore AI-based SARTHI (Intelligent Traffic Management System), covering 101 junctions across the GVMC area.
The Rs 64.80-crore New City Operation Center – AI & Automation project will also be taken up to support citywide operations. Smart Vending Zones developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore in Madhurawada and Gajuwaka will be inaugurated.
Foundation stones will also be laid for upgrading earthen roads into BT/CC roads in high- and medium-priority areas, along with end-to-end pavements and allied infrastructure, at a total cost of Rs 400 crore, with GVMC and VMRDA contributing Rs 200 crore each.
A total of 165 colony-level parks will be developed across eight Assembly constituencies at a cost of Rs 92.54 crore, with 123 parks under GVMC and 42 under VMRDA.
Under VMRDA, sports facilities will be developed at Pedagantyada at a cost of Rs 9.09 crore. Roads, drains, parks and street lighting will also be developed at a cost of Rs 113 crore in Vizianagaram, Nellimarla, Narsipatnam and Yelamanchili municipalities.
The VMRDA will also take up an alternative BT road from the hairpin bend to the Telugu Museum atop Kailasagiri Hill at a cost of Rs 3.40 crore.
Garg said the projects would strengthen civic infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, particularly in drinking water supply, sewerage management, AI-based traffic management, city operations, roads, parks and sports facilities.
