AP CM offers ‘Jala Harathi’ to Handri-Neeva waters at Kuppam branch canal

Tirupati, Sep 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu offered ‘Jala Harathi’ to the Handri-Neeva waters to provide irrigation water to the tail-end areas of Kuppam constituency and drinking water to the people.
The Chief Minister performed puja to the waters at the Kuppam Branch Canal of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project in Santhipuram mandal. Later, along with local public representatives and people, he offered flowers and offered ‘Jala Harathi’.
Farmers and women standing on both sides of the Kuppam Branch Canal expressed their happiness and welcomed the Handri-Neeva waters with traditional ‘Neerajanam’. They raised slogans hailing Handri-Neeva waters as a boon for Kuppam.
The Chief Minister said water security was crucial for the development of Kuppam, adding that the Handri-Neeva scheme has brought water to Kuppam from the foothills of Lord Mallikarjuna at Srisailam.
Naidu mentioned that 133 minor irrigation tanks had been filled through the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, helping ensure there was no drinking water shortage. Last year, 2.4 TMC of water was released into Kuppam, resulting in groundwater levels rising by around three metres and bringing dried-up borewells back to life, he noted.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the works related to the construction of a reservoir at Beeraganipalle and announced that reservoirs would also be established at Yamiganipalle and in the Madanapalle region of Chittoor district.
The Chief Minister said more than 550 minor irrigation tanks in Kuppam would be interconnected through lift irrigation systems, pipelines and gravity canals. Chittoor MP Daggumalla Prasad, local public representatives and officials attended the programme.

AP: GVMC publishes ward-wise voters' lists for public verification
