Minister Narayana directs officials to complete Visakhapatnam infrastructure works on time

Visakhapatnam, Sep 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana on Tuesday directed officials to complete ongoing infrastructure projects in Visakhapatnam within the stipulated timeframe, preferably within 18 months.
Narayana said 16 infrastructure projects involving Rs 3,892 crore had been launched in the city, with Rs 3,531.47 crore being taken up through the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Rs 369.49 crore through the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu virtually laid the foundation stones for development works worth Rs 11,360 crore in 123 municipalities across 26 districts from Kuppam.
The programme was telecast live at the V Convention Centre in PM Palem, where Narayana, MLAs, District Collector M Abhisikth Kishore, GVMC Commissioner Kethan Garg and other officials participated.
Narayana said several projects had remained stalled during the previous government due to non-release of the state share for centrally sponsored schemes.
After the present government assumed office, the stalled projects were reviewed and efforts were made to secure Central assistance, following which the works were resumed, he said.
He said municipal infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore were being taken up across Andhra Pradesh and foundation stones had been laid in a single day for works worth around Rs 11,369 crore covering drinking water, drainage and road infrastructure.
Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat called for strengthening the city's water supply pipeline network in view of the number of drinking water projects being implemented.
He said plans were being prepared to provide direct water supply to apartment complexes.
Sribharat also urged authorities to earmark designated areas for food stalls and vendors to prevent encroachment of footpaths.
District Collector M Abhisikth Kishore said infrastructure requirements relating to roads, traffic management, drainage, street lighting and other amenities were being identified across the city and works were being taken up accordingly.
GVMC Commissioner Kethan Garg said projects relating to water supply, drainage, parks, roads and centre lighting were being implemented through GVMC and VMRDA.
MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao called for advance planning to meet infrastructure requirements in rapidly expanding areas such as Bheemili, Pendurthi and Anakapalli.
Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao, Visakhapatnam West MLA Ganababu and North constituency MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju also participated in the programme.
