AP Cyclone: 273 relief centres set up for people living in low-lying areas

Machilipatnam, Oct 26 (UNI) Krishna district collector DK Balaji has said that 273 relief centres have been set up for the people living in low-lying areas and appealed to them to reach the centres in view of a very severe Arnab cyclonic storm brewing at sea.
Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, the Collector asked the people living in low-lying areas to remain alert as Cyclone Arnab would cause heavy rainfall and strong gales with speeds reaching 115 to 120 kmph between the afternoon of October 27th and 28th.
The Collector stated that the administration has taken all precautionary measures to handle the impact of the cyclone and requested the public to cooperate with officials and strictly follow all safety guidelines.
The Collector declared holidays for schools and anganwadi centres on October 27 and 28. He advised people not to travel on two-wheelers and stand under trees.
“Special teams have been formed to promptly clear uprooted trees as traffic on obstructed roads. Cutting machines and JCBs have been kept ready for deployment wherever necessary. Anticipating the potential collapse of electricity poles and disruptions to power supply, stand by poles, conductors, and skilled personnel have been stationed at every sub-station. Measures have also been put in place to ensure that any power supply interruptions are restored as quickly as possible,” the Collector explained.
Collector Balaji issued a warning that heavy rains may damage roads, cause flood waters to flow over them, and potentially disrupt traffic. The Collector stated that control rooms have been set up at both the district and divisional levels to continuously monitor the cyclone situation.
For emergency information or assistance, the public may contact the following numbers: - District Collectorate: 08672-252399, RDO Office, Machilipatnam: 08672-252486, RDO Office, Uyyuru: 08676-232589 and RDO Office, Gudivada: 08674-243698.
