AP: Highest number of 706 snake bites reported in Srikakulam district: Minister

Vijayawada, Sep 19 (UNI) Srikakulam district recorded the highest number of snakebite cases in Andhra Pradesh between January and August this year, with 706 cases, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said on Saturday.
Releasing wall posters to create awareness about snakebites at his camp office in Mangalagiri on International Snakebite Awareness Day, the Minister said six people had died of snakebites in the state so far this year.
He informed that 41 people died of snake bites in 2024, 13 people died in 2025 and during the year six people have died of snake bites so far.
“During the past three years, snakebite cases in the State ranged between approximately 4,500 and 4,800. Specifically, 4,809 cases were recorded in 2023, 4,573 in 2024, and 4,702 in 2025. From January to August 2026, 4,111 cases have been reported. The number of cases began rising in April of this year, with 890 cases recorded in July and 1,051 in August.
Between January and August 2026, the highest number of snakebite cases, 706, was recorded in Srikakulam. Other recorded figures include 369 cases in West Godavari, 307 in Vizianagaram, 296 in Krishna, and 271 in Eluru.
The officials were directed to enhance vigil and monitoring in coastal and forest areas as the number of cases is high in coastal and rural areas. The antivenom injections were made available in the 108 ambulances to save the lives of snake bite victims, the Minister said. Family welfare Commissioner Chakradhar Babu and National Health Mission State programme manager Dr. Vijayalakshmi was present.
