AP local body polls to be held with ballot papers: SEC

Vijayawada, Oct 8 (UNI) Local body elections in Andhra Pradesh will be held using ballot papers and would be conducted based on the electoral rolls finalized by February of this year, State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha said on Thursday.
He noted that elections would be conducted in phases once the government finalizes reservations in accordance with the verdict in cases pending in the Supreme Court. It was clarified that the election process must be completed within a 15-day timeframe, as stipulated by the Panchayat Raj and Municipal Acts.
He was speaking after a meeting with district Collectors, SPs, Panchayat Raj secretary, Municipal Administration commissioner, police commissioners and other officials here to review the arrangements being made for the local body polls.
He said officials have been instructed to identify sensitive and very sensitive polling stations.
"The local body elections will be conducted based on the electoral rolls finalized by February of this year. These elections will be held using ballot papers. We have already readied the necessary ballot boxes for each local body. Preparations have been underway on all fronts for the past two months, and all officials are ready for the elections. We are prepared to conduct the polls following the Supreme Court's verdict." SEC Punetha said.
The SEC instructed the officials to implement stringent measures regarding sensitive areas and problematic polling stations.
"The local body elections will be held using "ballot papers". The necessary ballot boxes have already been prepared for the respective local bodies," he announced.
The SEC said that comprehensive preparations have been underway for the past two months. Punetha also revealed that a printing press would be finalized for printing the ballot papers. UNI DP CDS
