Telangana DGP directs police units to step up implementation of new criminal laws

Hyderabad, Oct 8 (UNI) Telangana DGP C V Anand on Thursday directed senior police officers to strengthen implementation of the new criminal laws, improve the quality of investigation and enhance crime-control measures across the State.
At a review meeting with Commissioners of Police, Superintendents of Police and other senior officers at the CID office, Anand stressed the need to improve the disposal of cases under investigation, conviction rates and overall investigation standards. He said better performance by individual units was essential for improving Telangana's national ranking.
The meeting reviewed six key areas, including disposal of cases under investigation, tracking of sexual offences, pending trial cases, registration of FIRs at the scene of offence and effective use of e-Sakshya.
Anand directed officers to make greater use of Zero FIR, time-bound investigations, online charge sheets, e-Sakshya, e-Summons, Nyaya Shruti and the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS). He also stressed greater use of CCTNS data to identify crime trends and formulate preventive measures, particularly against cybercrime, NDPS offences and repeat offenders.
The implementation of the new laws is assessed nationally on four parameters—administrative reforms, operational efficiency, ICT application and integration—with weightages of 20, 45, 25 and 10 per cent respectively. Telangana currently has a score of 60.15, indicating scope for improvement.
Mulugu topped the State in implementation of the new laws, followed by Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Ramagundam Commissionerate. Anand directed Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, GRP Secunderabad and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri units to address deficiencies and improve performance.
He said specialised training would be provided wherever necessary to address technical and operational difficulties. A fresh video conference would be held shortly to review progress.
CID Director Charu Sinha, Hyderabad CP V.C. Sajjanar, Cyberabad CP Ramesh, IG Multi Zone-I Chandrashekar Reddy, CID DIG Parimala Hana Nutan and other senior officers attended the meeting, a statement from the DGP office said.
