AP: Passenger trains cancelled measure in view of cyclone

Vijayawada, Nov 2 (UNI) In view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and strong winds due to approaching Cyclone Murasu, the South Coast Railway has cancelled nine passenger trains.
SCoR General Manager Sandeep Mathur reviewed the precautionary measures and disaster management preparedness across the zone to ensure the safety of passengers, railway personnel and train operations.
He said that South Coast Railway has intensified round-the-clock surveillance of vulnerable railway bridges, tracks, yards and signalling systems and special attention is being given to clearing debris from catch-water drains to prevent water logging.
Patrolmen and watchmen have been deployed at vulnerable locations and bridges while adequate stocks of emergency track maintenance materials have been ensured, he informed, adding that the passenger assistance and safety arrangements have also been strengthened.
He said that help desks are being established at major stations to provide timely information, while additional counters will be operated to facilitate refunds for cancelled train tickets, if any. Besides medical teams, first-aid facilities and ambulances are being kept ready for round-the-clock emergency assistance.
