AP: Rs 1,816 Cr. being spent to bolster power infrastructure: Energy Minister

Anakapalli, Oct 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar has said that the government is spending around Rs. 1,816 crore on strengthening power infrastructure to meet the requirements of industries in the region.
The Minister inaugurated the substation, constructed by AP Transco at a cost of Rs 77.29 crore, on Monday at Atchutapuram. The Andhra Pradesh State Government has commissioned a 220-kVgas-insulated substation at Atchutapuram in Anakapalli district, as part of efforts to strengthen power infrastructure in the rapidly industrialising region.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravikumar said the substation had been established keeping in view the growing power requirements of domestic, commercial and industrial consumers in and around Atchutapuram, underlining the need to provide quality power supply for industrial growth. The facility would help improve the quality and reliability of power supply in the region, he said. The Minister revealed that the government was planning power infrastructure by taking into account the future requirements of the industrial sector. A reliable power network was essential for attracting industries and sustaining investment, he added.
Mr. Ravikumar said the foundation for the Achutapuram 220-kV substation was laid in 2018 during the previous Telugu Desam Party government and alleged that the subsequent YSR Congress government had failed to make effective use of Asian Development Bank (ADB) funds and had left several substation projects incomplete.
The Minister noted that three more substations were being constructed in the area at the direction of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, adding that substations and transmission lines are also being added in accordance with the rising demand for electricity.
The present Naidu-led coalition government had accorded priority to strengthening power infrastructure in accordance with the ChiefMinister’s directions, he said, adding that a robust electricity network was contributing to the State’s ability to attract fresh investments. Recruitment to 629 Assistant Engineer posts was already underway following the issuance of a notification, he said. MLA Sundarapu VijayKumar and Anakapalli District Collector Vijay Krishnan were among those present.
