Rajahmundry, Oct 5 (UNI) YSR Congress Party East Godavari district president and former minister Chelluboina Venugopalakrishna on Monday dismissed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to approach the Supreme Court on 34% BC reservations as "pure political theatrics designed to deceive Backward Classes once more".
Speaking to the media, he said post-High Court ruling, Naidu's decision of moving the Supreme Court is a calculated strategy timed for local body elections. “With deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Chief K Pawan Kalyan’s support, Chandrababu Naidu is projecting that BCs are no longer needed,” he alleged.
He said had the government handed over the previous regime’s caste census figures to the commission, legal justification for the 34% quota could have been built. "Instead, the Naidu government chose to implement reservations only through a GO, fully aware that such an order cannot withstand judicial scrutiny,” Venugopalakrishna said.
The Ex-Minister demanded why the government is not enacting a proper law, securing Parliament’s approval and placing it in the Ninth Schedule—the same route used to push the Amaravati capital legislation through the Centre.
Venugopalakrishna urged the BC communities and youth not to be taken for granted and called for "permanent statutory protection instead of fragile GOs that collapse in court".
