BJP-JD(S) to contest all future elections together: Yediyurappa

Bengaluru, Oct 5 (UNI) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP veteran BS Yediyurappa on Monday said the BJP and JD(S) would contest all future elections together, including the 2028 Assembly polls, and expressed confidence that the alliance would return to power in the state.
Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi after the filing of nomination papers by BJP candidate Shashil Namoshi from the North-East Teachers' constituency, Yediyurappa said the alliance would contest more seats together and form the next government in Karnataka.
On the question of the Chief Ministerial candidate if the alliance comes to power, he said the leaders of the two parties would take an appropriate decision.
Yediyurappa appealed to teachers to support Mr Namoshi, saying he would effectively raise their issues in the Legislative Council.
He criticised the Congress government over the education sector, alleging that several teaching posts were vacant and teachers and lecturers were not receiving salaries properly. He also alleged corruption in the distribution of shoes and socks to schoolchildren and urged the government to address the problems.
Targeting Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Yediyurappa accused him of believing that elections could be won through money power and alleged that the Congress was attempting to create conflicts among communities for electoral gains.
Reacting to Shivakumar's statement that he would become Chief Minister after the 2028 Assembly elections, Yediyurappa said such expectations amounted to "dreaming" of coming to power through money power.
"People will decide who should be given power, not those intoxicated by money," he said.
Yediyurappa also alleged that the Congress government had failed to deliver on its promise of providing Rs 2,500 to farmers, claiming that not even a single rupee had been paid so far.
He further said pilot Smith Machar, whom he described as a source of pride for the country, should be considered for the Bharat Ratna and said he would make a request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
NDA candidate and sitting MLC Shashil Namoshi and several BJP leaders, including Bandeppa Kashempur, Basavaraj Mattimadu, Sunil Valyapure, Avinash Jadhav, BG Patil, Jagdev Guttedar, Nasir Hussain Ustad, Rajkumar Patil and Nitin Guttedar, were present.
