AP: TDP-led NDA alliance registers landslide victory in Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad elections

Vijayawada, Nov 8 (UNI) Close on the heels of its overwhelming victory in the recently concluded Urban Local Body elections, the ruling Telugu Desam party-led NDA alliance in Andhra Pradesh comprising Janasena and BJP has registered landslide victories in the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad elections.

The counting of votes for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) concluded on Sunday and all the results were declared.

Repeating the ULB elections results, the NDA has won 27 Zilla Parishads out of the total 28 ZPs, while the Jagan Reddy-led opposition YSR Congress party won only one Zilla Parishad.

Of the total 659 ZPTCs in 28 districts, the NDA has won 576 ZPTCs, while the YSRCP won 76, and the independents and others won seven ZPTCs.
The NDA has won in Anakapalli, Anantapur, Konaseema, EG, Eluru, Guntur, Kakinada, Krishnam, Kurnool, Markapur, Nandyal, NTR, Palnadu, Polavaram, Paravatipuram Manyam, Prakasam, Nellore, Sri Satya Sai, Srikakulam, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, WG, Bapatla, Annamayya, Chittoor and Kadapa districts.
The YSRCP has a consolation by winning the Alluri Sitarama Raju district Zilla Parishad where it won seven ZPTCs of the total 11.
Significantly, the YSRCP bit the dust in its fortress Kadapa district by winning a paltry two ZPTCs, while the NDA won 37 ZPTCs.
The elected ZPTCs, and MPTC members have to elect the ZP chairman and Mandal presidents in their respective districts.

Meanwhile, in the Mandal Parishad elections, the YSRCP fared very poorly by winning only 1,760 MPTCs out of a total 9,710.
The NDA alliance won 7,648 MPTCs, while the rest of the seats were won by independents.
In its stronghold Kadapa district, the YSRCP won only 17 MPTCs while the NDA won a majority of 371 MPTCs.

YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged "large scale irregularities and malpractices" in the Zilla Parishad elections.
It may be mentioned here that incidents of violence took place at many places in Rayalaseema region during the ZP, MP elections.
Election officials have maintained that the ZPTC and MPTC elections were held transparently and peacefully, braving sporadic incidents.

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam party leaders said that the ULB and ZP election mandate clearly reflected the people’s mood and they are not ready to trust the YSRCP.
