AP: tension prevails at SAAP office as YSRCP leaders stages dharna

Vijayawada, Sep 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the office of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) as YSRCP leaders, along with a large number of activists, went there to stage a dharna demanding a CBI probe into the District Selection Committee (DSC) irregularities here on Monday.
Police said that some teachers, who were recruited under the DSC 2025 in the sports quota, went to the SAAP office to submit a representation to Sports Minister M Ramprasad Reddy and SAAP MD Bharani.
At the same time, YSRCP leaders, accompanied by a large number of activists, went to the SAAP office to stage a dharna demanding a CBI probe on the DSC scam and raising slogans on the DSC scam.
Meanwhile, the newly recruited teachers argued that they were recruited on genuine documents under sports quota and dismissed the YSRCP allegations of irregularities in the DSC sports quota recruitments.
Some YSRCP activists tried to barge into the SAAP office. The TDP leaders alleged that some of the YSRCP activists threw water battles on the DSC teachers.
The police resorted to lathi charge and dispersed the activists and whisked the YSRCP leader away to the police station. The YSRCP activists and police jostled on the road, leading to a tense situation on MG Road. The traffic on the busy MG road came to halt for over an hour, resulting in hundreds of vehicles stranded either side of the road.
Police said that the YSRCP leaders, along with their activists, staged a dharna without taking prior permission. Former MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Jogi Ramesh ,and Devineni Avinash went to the SAAP office along with a large number of followers.
Andhra Pradesh Minister for Sports M Prasad Reddy condemned the YSRCP leaders' attack on DSC teachers stating they hurled stones and eggs on the teachers. “The teachers were selected after verifying all the relevant certificates. Attack on the DSC teachers amounts to hurting their self-respect,” the Minister said.
Education Nara Lokesh condemned the YSRCP leaders’ attack on the DSC teachers. The Minister slammed that the YSRCP launched a malicious campaign on the sports quota of DSC and against the athletes who, with their stellar performances, showcased the State’s prowess to the world.
“We will take strict action against those who attacked teachers. The YSRCP should stop meddling in government schools and teachers’ duties. We will deal with YSRCP-inspiredrowdy sheeters, ganja-blade batches,” Nara Lokesh warned.
