Artisans no longer migrate; they're showcasing their skills on their native soil: CM Yogi

Sant Ravidas Nagar, Oct 4 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that Uttar Pradesh possessed limitless potential, but governments with a 'Bimaru' (ailing/backward) mindset had previously reduced it to that very state.
"Artisans and craftspeople, who were once forced to migrate from Uttar Pradesh in search of livelihood, are now finding a platform to showcase their skills on their own soil. Prior to 2017, businesses were crippled by riots, curfews, and anarchy; today, however, no mafia figure can threaten anyone by brandishing a pistol from an open jeep, nor can anyone compromise the safety of daughters and traders. The carpet industry now benefits from improved technology, design, market connectivity, and security. Bhadohi's carpets are carving a niche for themselves in the global market," he claimed
On Sunday, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Golden Jubilee edition of the 'India Carpet Expo,' held from October 4 to 7 at the Carpet Expo Mart in Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi).
He visited the stalls to inspect the products created by artisans and craftspeople. Approximately 250 exhibitors and over 450 overseas buyers from 65 countries are participating in this expo, including 106 buyers from BRICS nations.
The CM remarked that before 2017, an atmosphere of despair and hopelessness prevailed in Uttar Pradesh. The environment was unconducive to business due to riots, curfews, unrest, and mafia dominance. Artisans struggled to find work, and domestic as well as international buyers stayed away. By including Bhadohi's carpets in the 'One District-One Product' (ODOP) scheme, the government successfully connected artisans with technology, design, and markets.

The Chief Minister stated that exports worth ₹6,100 crore are being generated from Sant Ravidas Nagar and the silk cluster. The silk clusters of Sant Ravidas Nagar, Mirzapur, and Varanasi account for 60 percent of the country's total carpet exports. Sant Ravidas Nagar alone houses 2,500 MSME units with an annual turnover of ₹10,000 crore. This industry has provided direct employment to over five lakh people.

He noted that 90 percent of the carpets manufactured in the district are exported to various countries, including the USA, Germany, Australia, Canada, and the UK. Bhadohi's handmade carpets have also received the GI (Geographical Indication) tag. The Indian Institute of Carpet Technology has been established in Bhadohi to provide technical education and training in designing and dyeing for the carpet and textile sectors.
The Chief Minister stated that the carpet industry is directly benefiting from improved connectivity. With the extension of the Ganga Expressway as the Vindhya Expressway, it will be possible to reach Noida International Airport from Sant Ravidas Nagar in six hours. The cargo facilities there will enable Bhadohi's carpets to easily reach global markets. Additionally, cargo facilities are available via the inland waterway between Varanasi and Haldia, as well as at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi.
The Chief Minister remarked that incidents of unrest, curfews, and riots no longer occur in Uttar Pradesh. No mafia member can threaten anyone by brandishing a pistol from an open jeep, nor can they compromise the safety of daughters and traders.
As a result of robust law and order, the state has received investment proposals worth ₹50 lakh crore. Ground-breaking ceremonies have already taken place for proposals worth ₹15 lakh crore, and industrial projects worth ₹7.5 lakh crore are set to materialize very soon. There are 9.6 million (96 lakh) MSME units in the state, and each unit is being provided with a safety insurance cover of ₹5 lakh.
The Chief Minister stated that prior to 2017, there were approximately 14,000 factories in the state; this number has now crossed 35,000. Uttar Pradesh manufactures 55% of the country's mobile phones and 60% of its electronic components.
The state accounts for a 60% share of the country's expressway network. Work is underway on six nodes of the Defence Industrial Corridor, and 12 private industrial parks are being developed across the state. Investors are being provided with every possible facility through systems such as Nivesh Mitra, Nivesh Sarathi, and Udyami Mitra.
CM Yogi remarked that carpets crafted by the skilled hands of Bhadohi's artisans are adorning major establishments across the globe today. The carpet laid in the country's new Parliament building was also manufactured in Sant Ravidas Nagar. The district boasts a GI tag, an ODOP platform, a Carpet Expo Mart, and a robust export ecosystem.
A 'PM MITRA' textile park is being developed across 1,000 acres between Lucknow and Hardoi. Preparations are underway to establish 'Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Employment and Skilling Zones' in every district of the state; these zones will prepare skilled manpower tailored to industrial demands.
The Chief Minister noted that over 600,000 visitors attended the UP International Trade Show held at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from September 25 to 29. More than 150,000 B2B meetings took place, with the event featuring over 2,400 exhibitors and more than 650 foreign buyers. UNI MBD SAS
