Arunachal Guv urges people to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali

Itanagar, Oct 29 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik has extended his support to the Nationwide Green Diwali Campaign 2026, urging the people of the state to celebrate the festival of lights in an environment-friendly, safe and responsible manner.
The campaign, supported by the union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change through WWF-India’s Programme Centre–Resource Partner, is being observed from October 20 to November 8. The Governor said the initiative aligns with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which encourages sustainable living through conscious everyday choices.
Emphasising the need to protect public health and the environment, Parnaik urged families, particularly young people, to use traditional lamps, share sweets, support local artisans and promote community celebrations.
He cautioned that excessive use of firecrackers contributes to air and noise pollution and can adversely affect children, senior citizens, people with respiratory sensitivities, and animals and birds.
The Governor said Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. He called on people to minimise firecracker use and adopt eco-friendly practices to make the festival safer and cleaner.
He also urged educational institutions, community organisations and local bodies to spread awareness about environmentally responsible celebrations.
Expressing confidence that Arunachal Pradesh would lead by example, the Governor said collective efforts could make Diwali a festival of joy, goodwill and environmental responsibility while contributing to a cleaner, healthier and greener India. UNI TD NST
