Mizoram films to be showcased at Kerala nature festival

Aizawl, Oct 29 (UNI) Four films from Mizoram will be screened at the 8th Rain International Nature Film Festival in Kochi, Kerala, where the state has been selected as the Focus State, offering Mizo filmmakers a platform to showcase their work and promote the state’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Information, Public Relations, Printing and Stationery Minister B Lalchhanzova attended the festival on Thursday and welcomed the recognition, expressing hope that it would encourage filmmakers from Mizoram to exchange ideas and contribute to discussions on environmental conservation through cinema.

Addressing the festival, Lalchhanzova said films could play an important role in raising environmental awareness. He congratulated the Jayaraj Foundation for sustaining the festival and promoting cinema as a medium for conservation.

The minister also spoke about his long-standing desire to visit Kerala to learn about its society, educational achievements, and institutions. Despite being separated by nearly 3,000 kilometres, he said, Kerala and Mizoram shared cultural and social values, particularly their emphasis on education, faith, community life and social responsibility.

The festival, organised by noted Kerala filmmaker Jayaraj, who has also served as chairman of the National Film Awards jury, is being held at the SCMS School of Technology and Management and will continue until October 31.

It is supported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Jayaraj Foundation, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and other organisations.

The Mizoram delegation comprises Pratap Chhetri, Joint Director of the Information and Public Relations Department; Remlalliana Hnamte, Private Secretary to the minister; and filmmakers Napoleon RZ Thanga, Lalruatfela and K. Lalrinzuala.

Meanwhile, 10 members of the Bangalore Mizo Association presented traditional Mizo dances during the inaugural programme, receiving a warm response from the audience and adding a cultural dimension to Mizoram’s participation in the festival.
