Arunachal: Pakke Tiger Reserve dedicates Workers’ club to frontline staff

Itanagar, June 29 (UNI) In a significant step towards integrating conservation initiatives with community welfare, Pakke Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Sunday launched a slew of programmes.
The new programmes include the Veer Vanrakshak Smriti Workers’ Club and a handloom training under the SAMARTH Scheme at West Bank, Seijosa.
Gracing the event, Health & Family Welfare and Water Resources Minister Biyuram Wahge inaugurated the Workers’ Club, a facility dedicated to the frontline forest staff and their families.
The club, equipped with recreational and fitness amenities, aims to support the mental and physical well-being of frontline forest staff.
“It has been developed as a space for recreation, welfare, and community engagement. This pioneering effort acknowledges the dedication and sacrifices of forest personnel who risk their lives to protect the biodiversity of Pakke Tiger Reserve,” Divisional Forest Officer and PTR Field Director Satyaprakash Singh said.
The programme also featured the official launch of a handloom training under the SAMARTH Scheme of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India. The initiative is aimed at empowering local women and youth by reviving traditional weaving skills, thereby promoting self-employment, cultural preservation, and economic self-reliance.
A preview of the Nyime Aid App, a mobile application currently under development, was also showcased, offering a tech-based solution for fast, transparent relief to the victims of human-wildlife conflict.
Additionally, ex-gratia cheques were personally handed over by the Minister to the victims of human-wildlife conflict. The programme also included the distribution of full-body protectors, uniforms, liveries, and field gear to frontline staff of Pakke Tiger Reserve, significantly enhancing their safety and operational preparedness.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to a conservation model that is both people-centric and future-ready. True conservation is only possible when communities and frontline staff- those who live and work closest to nature—are supported and empowered,” PTR Field Director Satyaprakash Singh stated.
In his address, Minister Biyuram Wahge lauded the dedicated efforts of the DFO in spearheading multiple development projects in Pakke Tiger Reserve. He specifically acknowledged initiatives such as the Butterfly Park, Decorative Entry Gate, Foresters’ Memorial, and the newly inaugurated Workers’ Club.
He also praised the development of the Nyime Aid App, describing it as a timely and innovative solution for addressing the challenges of human-wildlife conflict. Following the main program, the Minister visited the Handloom Training Centre at Niti Darlong.
The event concluded with an interactive session over lunch, highlighting the importance of community-based conservation and participatory development in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable local livelihoods.
