Assembly bypolls : Opposition DMK urges ECI to cancel ruling TVK's star campaigners list

Chennai, Sep 21 (UNI) The principal opposition DMK on Monday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to cancel the ruling TVK's Star Campaingers list for the October six bypoll to two Assembly seats as it contained list of names--alliance party leaders--of those who are not members of the TVK party.
The list contained names of all alliance party leaders, who are part of the newly formed Secular Social Justice Vettri Alliance headed by the TVK, which had converted the alliance to a new Front.
Among those named in the star campaigners list included TNCC President and Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore, VCK Founder and
Lok Sabha MP Thol.Thirumavalavan, Tamil Nadu Minister Vanniarasu of VCK, its Lok Sabha MP Ravikumar MP and party functionary Sinthanai Selvan, Vaiko of MDMK, his son and Lok Sabha MP Durai Vaiko and Indian union Muslim League leader Prof. K.M. Khader Mohideen.

In a letter to Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar, DMK Organisation Secretary R.S.Bharathi sought immediate cancellation of TVK Star Campaigners list published for the by-elections in Madhurantakam and Dharapuram seats as violated Section 77 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
He also urged him to issue directions to ensure that if leaders from other parties campaign for TVK candidates, all associated expenses must be fully added to the individual candidate’s election expenditure accounts and initiate appropriate proceedings under the MCC against the TVK for submitting a list contrary to statutory provisions.
He requested him to take immediate action on this complaint to safeguard the democratic conventions enshrined in the Constitution and uphold electoral regulations.
