Bengal: Malda students save tiffin money to gift clothes to school workers

Siliguri, Oct 12 (UNI) Small savings by school children from West Bengal's Malda district have turned into a heart-warming Durga Puja gift for those who work behind the scenes to keep their school running.
The initiative at Lalit Mohan Shyam Mohini Primary School in Malda town reflects a simple lesson taught to children: the joy of a festival becomes greater when it is shared with others.
On Monday, around 650 students, along with their teachers, came together to distribute new clothes among the school’s midday meal cooks and helpers, cleaning staff and other needy people living nearby. Around 50 people, including children and elderly women, received the gifts.
The students saved small amounts from their tiffin money to buy the clothes. The teachers and parents also contributed to the initiative, turning the children’s savings into a collective effort.
“We wanted to share the joy of Durga Puja with those who work for us every day. It feels good to help them with our small savings,” said Priyank Sarkar, a Class IV student.
Partha Pradhan, an assistant teacher at the school, said the initiative was aimed at teaching children the values of kindness, sharing and social responsibility from an early age.
The recipients were delighted to receive the new clothes ahead of the festival. For the young students, their smiles were perhaps the most rewarding part of the initiative.
