Bhimbandh to be developed as Eco-Tourism destination; tourist facilities in Rajgir to be expanded

Patna, Oct 12 (UNI) The Bihar government has stepped up efforts to develop the state’s natural and forest areas as environmentally sustainable tourism destinations.
The process of preparing a Request for Proposal (RFP) is underway to develop Bhimbandh in Munger district as a major eco-tourism destination. Work to establish tourist facilities at the site will begin following the completion of this process.
The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department is working to expand tourism infrastructure while ensuring the conservation of nature. Plans are being advanced to develop basic infrastructure and public amenities for visitors at natural sites, reservoirs, hilly areas and wildlife zones.
The Bihar Eco-Tourism Development Society (BETDS) is undertaking the selection process for a transaction adviser, architectural consultant and Programme Management Unit (PMU) to support the integrated development of eco-tourism sites across the state.
The process of selecting an agency to promote Bihar’s eco-tourism destinations through branding and strategic publicity has also begun. The initiative aims to establish a distinct identity for the state’s natural attractions and improve the overall visitor experience.
The government is also exploring private-sector participation in the development and operation of selected eco-tourism sites under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) models.
Development potential is being assessed at several other natural and eco-tourism destinations, including Rajgir, Kaimur, Rohtas, Gaya and the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, along with various forest and reservoir areas.
In Rajgir, plans to develop eco-friendly cottages and introduce new tourist attractions, including a cliff walk at the Nature Safari, are also progressing.
The department aims to balance tourism development with the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity. Special emphasis is being placed on linking local communities with employment and livelihood opportunities through eco-tourism.
