Bengal Transport Department to run special bus, tram and waterway services for Puja revellers

Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) The state Transport Department has decided to operate special services for Puja revellers during the festive season.
According to state Transport Minister Arjun Singh, the special services will include Puja Parikrama from September 17 to 21. “The services would be operated using regular and AC buses, CNG/AC buses, trams and waterways to decongest the traffic load on city roads,” the minister said.
“The services would be run covering important and heritage Puja destinations across North and South Kolkata as well as beyond the city. Dedicated services will also be operated from areas such as Barasat, Howrah and other locations,” he added. The state Transport Department lists Arjun Singh as the Minister-in-Charge.
The Puja Parikrama services include packages for ‘bonedi barir’ Puja in Kolkata and its adjoining areas. The routes cover Durga Puja celebrations at eminent bonedi baris of the city. Dedicated routes would be operated under the names Sabeki Bonedi Barir Pujo Parikrama by Volvo Bus and Barasat-Uttar Kolkata Bonedi Bari AC Puja Special-1.
Apart from this, the Barrackpore-Dunlop-Kolkata Shohortoli Puja Special bus route would be made functional, with stoppages at Barrackpore, Dunlop and Shyambazar. For pandal hoppers in Howrah and Kolkata, a route named Howrah-Kolkata Shohortoli Puja Special-1 would also be made operational during the peak Puja days. The department has fixed particular charges for various routes, some of which also include food packages. Details of the Puja Parikrama routes and fares were also released by the department.
The Transport Department runs night bus services to cater to the rush of pandal hoppers at night. As informed by the minister, the department is considering continuing the service this year as well, but the timings of the night bus services are yet to be decided.
To extend the fleet of state-run buses that are in much demand during the festive period, the department is to roll out 300 buses before the Puja.
As informed by the minister, tram services covering Esplanade-Shyambazar-Esplanade-Gariahat-Esplanade would also be run for Puja revellers, with packages priced at Rs 800 per head, including snacks and tea/coffee for adults.
