Bengal: Woman, mother arrested for alleged murder of Live-in partner in Garia

Kolkata, Nov 8 (UNI) A 25-year-old software engineer was allegedly murdered by his live-in partner following a quarrel at their rented flat in Garia on Saturday night.
Police have arrested the woman and her mother on suspicion of their involvement in the crime.
The deceased, identified as Sarthak Sarkar, was originally from Barasat but had been living with his partner, Sanchalika Basu, at a rented flat in Fartabad, Garia.
Sarthak was employed with a company in Salt Lake's Sector V, while Sanchalika is a student of law at a private college, police sources said.
According to police, an altercation broke out between the couple at their flat on Saturday night.
During the quarrel, Sanchalika allegedly attacked Sarthak with a sharp weapon, striking him on the shoulder. He sustained serious injuries and collapsed.
Neighbours reportedly heard screams and commotion coming from the flat and rushed to the spot.
They alerted the police and helped rescue Sarthak before taking him to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Officers from Narendrapur police station reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Following a preliminary inquiry, police arrested Sanchalika on charges of murdering her live-in partner.
Investigators subsequently arrested her mother, Moumita Basu, suspecting that she might also have been involved in the murder.
Police are trying to ascertain her exact role in the incident and whether she was present at the flat when the alleged attack took place.
The motive behind the murder remains unclear.
Investigators are examining whether the attack was the outcome of a domestic dispute or whether there were other factors behind the incident.
Police sources said the investigators want to take both the accused into custody for questioning to establish the sequence of events leading to Sarthak's death.
They are also examining the circumstances surrounding the couple's relationship and the events preceding the fatal altercation.
