Bihar Govt to provide financial assistance to disaster affected fish farmers

Patna, Sep 16 (UNI) The Bihar government has announced financial assistance for fisherfolk and fish farmers affected by disasters during the financial year 2026-27, with support to be provided for damaged boats and fishing nets, fish feed and restoration of fish farms.
Sources at the Department of Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources said here on Wednesday the assistance would be provided under three categories to help disaster-affected fish farmers recover their livelihoods.
Under the first category, assistance will be provided for the repair or replacement of damaged or lost non-motorised boats and fishing nets. Fish farmers will receive
Rs 6,000 for repairing a partially damaged boat and Rs 3,000 for repairing a partially damaged net. Assistance of Rs 15,000 will be provided for replacing a completely damaged boat and Rs 4,000 for replacing a completely damaged net.
The assistance will be available only to beneficiaries who are not receiving subsidies or assistance under any other government scheme for the same purpose.
Under the second category, small and marginal fish farmers will be provided with an input subsidy of Rs 10,000 per hectare for fish feed. Beneficiaries who are eligible for or have already received assistance or subsidy under another government scheme for the current disaster will not be eligible for the benefit, except for the one-time subsidy provided under the relevant scheme of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Under the third category, fish farmers will receive assistance of Rs 18,000 per hectare for desilting or restoration of ponds and repair of fish farms. The benefit under this category will be available to fish farmers who are not receiving assistance or subsidy under any other government scheme for the same purpose.
The department advised disaster-affected fisherfolk and fish farmers to contact their respective District Fisheries Officer for further details. Information can also be obtained through the websites of the Department of Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources, Bihar, and the Directorate of Fisheries, Bihar, the sources informed.
