BJD’s Student & Youth wings to protest across Odisha against rising atrocities on women

Bhubaneswar, June 23 (UNI) The Youth and Student Wings of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have announced a statewide protest on June 25 to condemn the alarming rise in incidents of rape,
murder, and harassment of young women in Odisha.
BJD General Secretary and MLA Dr. Byomkesh Ray, along with former student leader and MLA
Devi Ranjan Tripathy, on Monday sharply criticized the BJP-led state government, accusing it of remaining a silent spectator amid the deteriorating law and order situation.
Addressing newsmen here Ray alleged that since the BJP came to power in the state, the law and order situation has steadily worsened.
"Every day, newspapers are filled with disturbing reports of young women being harassed, raped, kidnapped, or murdered," he said.
Citing a shocking recent incident, Ray referred to the gang rape of a college girl at the Gopalpur sea beach, where the victim was assaulted in front of her male friend, who was tied to a tree during the crime.
"On average, about 15 girls are raped daily in Odisha. These rising incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among women," he alleged.
Expressing deep concern, the BJD youth leader said it is extremely unfortunate and painful that
the state government remains indifferent and has utterly failed to control the worsening situation.
He further said that while the state is grappling with a law and order crisis, 11 districts are simultaneously battling outbreaks of cholera and diarrhea.
“Yet, the BJP government is busy celebrating the one-year anniversary of its rule,” he remarked.
As part of the protest on June 25, the BJD leaders said college students across Odisha will boycott classes, wear black badges, hold picketing demonstrations, and burn effigies.
