BJP asks Eknath Sena to clarify stand on remarks by Dhangekar, Sattar

Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) The BJP on Friday criticised Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) leader Ravindra Dhangekar over his remarks against the BJP and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis amid discussions on the Mahayuti alliance, and sought clarification from the Shiv Sena on whether his statements reflected the party's official position.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP's state headquarters, party state chief spokesperson Navnath Ban accused Dhangekar of frequently switching political parties to advance his political career and said voters in Pune had rejected him in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Ban alleged that Dhangekar had changed 12 political parties and said he should refrain from advising the BJP.
He also referred to the electoral defeat of members of Dhangekar's family in the Pune Municipal Corporation elections.
Stating that the BJP wanted the Mahayuti alliance to remain united, Ban said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar had made efforts to strengthen the alliance.
However, he alleged that some local-level leaders and workers were attempting to create differences within the alliance and work against BJP candidates.
Referring to the action taken against rebels in Amravati, Ban said the BJP had suspended them for six years.
He questioned whether similar action would be taken against those allegedly working against Mahayuti candidates in Pune and against the NCP in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
"If the Mahayuti alliance is to remain intact, those creating differences within it must be restrained in time," he said.
Ban also sought clarification from Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on whether the remarks made by Dhangekar and Shiv Sena leader Abdul Sattar represented the official stand of the Shiv Sena.
He said Dhangekar had allegedly used objectionable remarks, including calling a BJP candidate an extortionist, and asked whether Shinde and senior Shiv Sena leaders endorsed such statements.
The BJP expected a clear response from the Shiv Sena on the issue, Ban added.
Following the results of the MLC elections, where the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won three out of five seats, Dhangekar has made explosive public statements. He has openly called for a change in the state leadership, pushing for Eknath Shinde to return as the Chief Minister. He credited Shinde's ground management for previous electoral victories.
