BJP leaders attack Mamata, say TMC faces political decline

Kolkata, Oct 1 (UNI) union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Thursday launched a sharp attack on former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), saying the party has met the same fate as the Congress and Left after losing power.
Shekhawat said the TMC had no ideological basis and alleged that it had merely survived by remaining in power.
“The future that Congress and Left parties faced across the country after losing power is exactly the same future that TMC is facing in West Bengal after parting ways with power,” he said.
“This is not a political organisation that operates on the basis of any ideology. It is merely a party that engages in politics by becoming a parasite on power, climbing onto the shoulders of those in authority,” Shekhawat said.
He also predicted a strong BJP performance in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
“I can confidently say that in 2029, the lotus will bloom here with a resounding majority, and TMC's future will be registered as a dark chapter in the pages of India's political history,” he said.
Bhattacharya said the TMC had already lost its political relevance in West Bengal and claimed that no TMC candidate would be elected from the state in the next Lok Sabha election.
“There is a specific number of seats involved when it comes to expressing either objection or support. One has to contest elections. The Trinamool Congress is gone. There is no Trinamool Congress. The Trinamool Congress is finished,” Bhattacharya said.
“Not a single person will be elected from West Bengal in the next Lok Sabha election in the name of the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
“This is the writing on the wall,” Bhattacharya said.
Referring to a remark made by Banerjee before the election, Bhattacharya said she had indicated that the two sides could meet again if her party survived.
“That is why she had said while addressing a meeting before the election that if the party still exists, they would meet again,” he said.
The remarks came as the by-elections in Nandigram in East Midnapore and Rejinanagar in Murshidabad are scheduled on October 6.
