Sikkim CM reviews progress of Rangit Stage-IV HE project

Siliguri, Oct 1 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday reviewed the present status and progress of the Rangit Stage-IV Hydroelectric (HE) Project at Reshi in Soreng district.
The review meeting was held at the Dak Bungalow in Soreng, where the Chief Minister enquired about various aspects of the project, including the progress of ongoing construction works and issues related to its implementation.
Tamang directed NHPC officials to ensure efficient execution of the project, keeping in view the convenience and welfare of the public. He also discussed the need to ensure that the project tunnels are adequately lit, pedestrian-friendly and safe for public movement.
The Chief Minister said a committee comprising officials of the Mines and Geology Department of the Government of Sikkim and district collectors of the districts concerned would be constituted to examine matters related to the project.
He also directed NHPC and the proposed committee to maintain close coordination for the smooth implementation and monitoring of ongoing projects across the state.
During the meeting, DGM-HRT (NHPC) R M Saho made a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the current status of the Rangit Stage-IV HE Project.
The presentation covered the status of the Dam Control Room Building, Dissipating Chamber and Self-Flush Tunnel, Head Race Tunnel (HRT), Surge Shaft, Power House, Tail Race Channel, Pothead Yard works and the diversion road tunnel along SH-22/NH-510 near the dam site at Reshi.
It also highlighted recommendations for rehabilitation and remedial treatment, requirements for major construction equipment and an appraisal of the Chun Bhatti Nala slide zone.
