BJP protest in Patna over Kharge’s remarks, burns effigy of Congress chief

Patna, Oct 26 (UNI) The Bihar unit of the BJP staged a protest on Monday against alleged objectionable remarks by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father and burnt an effigy of the Congress chief.
Led by Bihar BJP president Sanjay Saraogi, party workers took to the streets and raised slogans against the Congress leadership. The protesters carried placards and posters targeting the Congress and Rahul Gandhi.
The demonstrators assembled near the state BJP headquarters, marched through the Income Tax roundabout to the Dak Bungalow crossing, and burnt an effigy of Kharge to register their protest. Some protesters slapped the effigy before setting it on fire.
Bihar Cooperation Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, chief whip and MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, MLA Ratnesh Kushwaha and several senior party leaders and office-bearers participated in the demonstration.
Addressing the protesters, Saraogi strongly criticised Kharge’s alleged remarks, saying political differences with the Prime Minister were legitimate, but the use of derogatory language against his deceased parents was unacceptable under any circumstances.
He alleged that objectionable remarks had previously been made in Bihar against the Prime Minister’s late mother and said such language was contrary to the norms of political discourse.
Saraogi said Kharge had made the alleged objectionable remarks about the Prime Minister’s late father while speaking at an event marking the birth anniversary of Bihar Kesari Sri Krishna Singh. He termed the incident unfortunate, arguing that making derogatory comments about a person who had died decades ago violated political decorum.
The BJP state president alleged that the Congress and the Mahagathbandhan were frustrated by their electoral setbacks and that their frustration was reflected in their public statements. Instead of addressing issues concerning the people, Congress leaders were resorting to personal remarks, he claimed.
Saraogi said the Prime Minister’s office and his family deserved respect, adding that political opposition should not cross the boundaries of personal and family dignity.
Referring to past political controversies, he alleged that opposition leaders had previously used terms such as “merchant of death” and “neech” against Modi and had made remarks about his humble background.
He expressed confidence that the people would respond democratically to such statements and said the Congress would face political consequences.
Other BJP leaders also condemned the alleged remarks, asserting that derogatory language against the Prime Minister and his family would not be accepted by the public.
