BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban questions UBT-MNS march over SIR

Mumbai, Oct 1 (UNI) BJP Maharashtra chief spokesperson Navnath Ban on Thursday questioned the proposed joint march by Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying political parties should maintain consistency in their position on the exercise.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office, Ban said SIR had been undertaken in different states and alleged that its acceptance or opposition was being viewed differently depending on electoral outcomes.
He said the proposed march in Mumbai would involve expenditure on transportation and other arrangements and suggested that such resources could instead be used to support drought-affected farmers.
Ban also questioned the functioning of the INDIA bloc, pointing to differences among its constituent parties and their separate programmes.
He said the absence of some parties from recent meetings reflected differences within the alliance.
On the proposed October 4 march by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, Ban questioned the rationale behind targeting the Election Commission and said political parties should also examine developments within their own organisations.
Ban also referred to statements concerning the investigation into the aircraft accident involving NCP leader Ajit Pawar and said that any evidence or information available in the matter should be presented before the public and appropriate authorities.
