BJP to support Osmania University non-teaching staff stir: Ramchander Rao

Hyderabad, Nov 4 (UNI) Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the protesting non-teaching employees of Osmania University (OU) and demanded that their long-pending grievances be resolved immediately.
He visited the protest site in front of the university's administrative building, where non-teaching, technical, time-scale and contract employees were demanding implementation of pension benefits, regularisation of services and improved healthcare facilities.
Rao criticised the university administration for failing to provide job security, fair wages and pension benefits to employees who had served for 25 to 30 years.
He demanded equal pay for equal work, restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for employees appointed between 2001 and 2004, implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for subsequent recruits and abolition of the LIC-linked pension scheme.
He also sought an increase in the medical reimbursement limit from Rs. 10,000 to Rs 30,000, release of the pending annual increment of Rs. 1,500, regularisation of eligible contract and time-scale employees, and filling of vacant posts and pending promotion vacancies.
Alleging that the university administration was threatening and suspending employees for participating in protests, he said such actions were unacceptable.
Recalling his association with OU as an alumnus who completed his M.A. and LL.B. degrees there, he urged the Vice-Chancellor and the State Government to invite the Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders for talks and resolve their demands.
He warned that the BJP would extend direct support to the employees' agitation and help intensify the movement if the administration failed to address their grievances.
He also expressed concern over the suspension of Professor Manohar, a former association president, and said the issue had been brought to the Governor's notice.
BJP State General Secretary Gautam Rao, former professors, student union leaders, representatives of non-teaching staff associations from various universities and OU JAC leaders were among those present.
