BRS seeks sitting Judge’s probe into Singareni, Foreign coal purchases

Hyderabad, Oct 16 (UNI) BRS working President and former Minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday challenged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to order an inquiry by a sitting judge into alleged irregularities in Singareni Collieries, proposed foreign coal purchases and other corruption allegations against the Congress government.
Addressing a meeting of the Narsampet constituency at Telangana Bhavan, KTR alleged that the government was creating crises in coal production, power supply and irrigation to justify expensive purchases and commissions.
He demanded a probe into the alleged Rs 10,000-crore Singareni scam and an alleged solar power scam.
“Revanth Reddy says he will order an inquiry if we write to him. If he has the courage, let him order a sitting judge’s inquiry into our allegations,” KTR said.
Calling Revanth Reddy an “EMI Chief Minister”, the BRS leader alleged that proposed coal imports from Australia were intended to generate commissions and meet political obligations to the Congress high command.
He claimed that domestic coal was available at around Rs 3,800 per tonne, while imported coal could cost Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per tonne.
KTR alleged that coal production had been reduced and that around Rs 60,000 crore in dues to Singareni remained pending, even as the company was being blamed for shortages.
He accused the government of creating a crisis before citing the need to procure coal and electricity at higher prices.
Questioning the state’s power situation, KTR said Telangana was facing shortages despite the previous BRS government providing 24-hour electricity.
He contrasted the Congress’s earlier criticism of a power purchase agreement with Chhattisgarh at Rs 3.90 per unit with what he described as the present government’s consideration of electricity purchases at Rs 15 per unit.
With nearly 30 lakh agricultural pump sets, irrigation projects and industries dependent on electricity, reliable power supply was essential, he said, accusing the government of allowing power cuts to return.
KTR also accused the Congress government of failing to utilise available water through the Kaleshwaram project despite repeated calls by the BRS to take timely action.
He alleged that water had been allowed to flow downstream without being lifted from the Kannepalli pump house, worsening drinking water and irrigation shortages and leaving crops vulnerable.
Criticising the government for citing El Nino, he said timely intervention could have mitigated the difficulties faced by farmers.
He claimed that around 1,000 TMC of water had been allowed to flow into the sea.
Comparing Telangana’s water management with that of Andhra Pradesh, KTR referred to the movement of water to Kuppam, around 700 km away, and the lifting of approximately 400 TMC through the Pattiseema project.
He questioned why Telangana could not transport water to Mahabubnagar, around 70 km away, and argued that the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy projects could help the state strengthen its agricultural output.
“This is not a drought caused by nature; this is a drought created by Congress,” he said, urging the government to set aside political considerations and address farmers’ problems.
KTR expressed confidence that the BRS would hoist its pink flag in Narsampet within two years.
He said he would adopt the constituency after the party returned to power and oversee development initiatives planned by former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy.
He also assured support to the former MLA’s family and party workers.
Claiming that people wanted BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao to return as Chief Minister, KTR urged party cadres to work towards victory in the Graduate MLC elections.
He said the BRS would continue to raise issues concerning Singareni, electricity supply, irrigation and farmers’ welfare and hold the Congress government accountable for its decisions.
