Cancer drug bills set to fall: NPPA lists steep MRP cuts in several medicines from Nov 9

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) Cancer patients facing the burden of expensive medicines could get significant relief from November 9, with the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) publishing revised maximum retail prices (MRPs) for several non-scheduled anti-cancer drug formulations.
The list shows sharp reductions in selected brands, potentially lowering medicine expenses for patients who require prolonged treatment.
The scale of the reductions is evident in Abbott Healthcare’s bevacizumab 400 mg injection, supplied in a 16 ml vial, whose listed MRP has fallen from ₹65,205.09 to ₹8,956.75.
The price of the company’s 100 mg injection in a 4 ml vial has been revised from ₹21,767.70 to ₹5,930.13.
Patients prescribed selected oral cancer medicines may also see lower listed prices. Samarth Life Sciences’ DASATIB 100 mg tablets, in a pack of 30, have been revised from ₹10,116 to ₹1,380.32, while its 50 mg tablets, in a pack of 60, have been reduced from ₹10,791 to ₹1,457.57.
In another significant reduction, Khandelwal Laboratories’ ERLOTAZ 100 mg erlotinib capsules, supplied in a pack of 30, have been revised from ₹8,481.32 to ₹1,050.14.
The MRP of the 150 mg formulation, also in a pack of 30, has fallen from ₹11,065.33 to ₹1,718.26.
The revised list also covers medicines containing abiraterone acetate, used in cancer treatment.
Mylan Pharmaceuticals’ MyTera 250 mg tablets, in a pack of 120, have been reduced from ₹16,865 to ₹5,105.50. Intas Pharmaceuticals’ ABIRATAS 250 mg tablets, in the same pack size, have been revised from ₹28,305.94 to ₹7,970.50.
For enzalutamide, Hetero Healthcare’s ENZANA 40 mg capsules, in a pack of seven, have been reduced from ₹2,227 to ₹830. Abbott Healthcare’s ENZANDRO 40 mg capsules, in a pack of 28, have been revised from ₹10,890 to ₹3,108.39.
The list further records reductions in azacitidine and denosumab formulations. Hetero Healthcare’s AZASHINE 300 mg tablets, in a pack of 14, have been revised from ₹24,637 to ₹9,356, while the 200 mg formulation in a pack of 14 has fallen from ₹17,964 to ₹6,675. RPG Life Sciences’ Debrumab 60 mg denosumab injection, supplied in a 1 ml prefilled syringe, has been revised from ₹22,031.25 to ₹5,941.
For families managing cancer treatment over months or longer, reductions in the listed prices of prescribed medicines could help ease recurring expenditure.
The actual benefit, however, will depend on the specific brand, strength and pack prescribed. The revised MRPs should not be interpreted as uniform reductions across every brand or all anti-cancer medicines.
The NPPA list specifies November 9, 2026, as the effective date for the revised prices, and states that it is based on information received from pharmaceutical companies up to October 28, 2026.
