Centre plotting to topple Karnataka govt, alleges Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru, Oct 8 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Centre, alleging that efforts were underway to destabilise and topple the Congress government in the state, while linking the alleged conspiracy to the recent warning over sting operations targeting ministers.
Kharge said the state government was functioning without any internal confusion and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was actively engaging with the people, but claimed that this had triggered attempts to undermine the government.
“We have received information that attempts are being made to topple the state government. The Centre is making efforts to bring down the government,” he alleged.
His remarks came amid heightened political tension following Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s warning to ministers to remain cautious about alleged sting operations.
Kharge sought to portray the alleged sting operation as part of a broader political effort to destabilise the government, though he did not provide details of the alleged central role or specific evidence supporting the charge.
The Home Minister also turned his fire on the BJP and JD(S) over the controversy surrounding the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), questioning their alleged silence on Shivashankarappa Sahukar, whom he described as a key accused.
“We repeatedly hear about D.K. Shivakumar and Priyank Kharge. But have BJP and JD(S) leaders even once spoken about Shivashankarappa Sahukar?” he asked.
Kharge questioned who appointed Sahukar as KPSC chairman and who selected the Commission's members, particularly those who are now facing legal action.
“Who made Sahukar the KPSC chairman? Who appointed the KPSC members? Who appointed those who are in jail today?” he asked.
The Minister alleged that the BJP and JD(S) could not selectively raise questions over the KPSC controversy while avoiding scrutiny of those involved in the appointments.
The allegations add a fresh political dimension to the ongoing confrontation over KPSC irregularities and the reported sting operation, with the Congress government accusing the Opposition and the Centre of attempting to exploit the controversies to weaken the state administration.
