CJP alleges procedural delays in proceedings against leaders lodged in Tihar

New Delhi, Oct 18 (UNI) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday accused Delhi Police and state authorities of deliberately delaying proceedings involving its leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who are spending their fifth day in Tihar Jail, alleging procedural obstruction during a hearing before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM).
Addressing the media after the proceedings, CJP legal head Ratna Singh alleged that the hearing schedule was repeatedly pushed back without prior notice, leaving defence counsel waiting from noon until the evening.
She claimed that the Special Executive Magistrate and the Public Prosecutor arrived at around 5.30 pm, only for the proceedings to shift to an alleged threatening message reportedly sent to the magistrate.
“The Public Prosecutor, who failed to appear for four consecutive days, suddenly arrived today and attempted to divert the proceedings toward an alleged threatening message,” Singh said.
She alleged that the prosecution failed to produce documentary evidence or on-record verification to substantiate the claim. According to Singh, the defence sought formal action to establish the authenticity of the alleged message and identify its sender.
“When our legal team demanded that the authority register an official order, identify the sender, and initiate proper action against the individual responsible, the Magistrate and Prosecutor refused to proceed with the hearing on merits and prepared to leave,” she said.
The party argued that an unverified allegation concerning a message should not be used to delay consideration of the cases involving Das and Ranka. It accused the authorities of withholding verification approvals and creating procedural hurdles that, it claimed, were prolonging the detention of the two leaders.
The CJP described the developments as an attempt to obstruct the proceedings and termed the detention unjustified.
Reaffirming its resolve to challenge the proceedings, the party said it would pursue legal remedies before higher judicial forums and seek the immediate release of its leaders.
